Video Alternatives are presented at the end of many film reviews for a couple of
reasons. First, to show that any subject can be handled without beating
up the viewer with offensive material. And second, in most cases they
are considered by many critics as superior to the new releases.
One problem; a considerable amount of these choices have some age on them. I'm aware
that many young people may not wish to view Black & White films or watch
films starring people they have never heard of.
Understand, we at The Movie Reporter are not saying that the only good films ever made came
pre-MTV. We simply hope Video (DVD) Alternatives will remind movie goers,
and movie makers of the message, style and attitude of filmmakers of the
past.
